An overlay of traditional elements in a contemporary setting, “FD” is a symphony of mashrabiyas, louvered screens and extended wooden arches on an ordered system of rectangular facades. This arched pathway extends throughout the house, almost drawing the line between the private and semi-private zones maximizing natural light, breezes, and views for its inhabitants. The residence opens up beyond satisfying the client’s spatial requirements, creating simple, layered spaces be it the internal courtyard and water feature in the basement or the extended gardens and pool in the ground floor. Designed in a pared-down Classical style, materials throughout the house are used in a polished and refined manner, be it the distinct boirserie treatment used in the bedrooms or the distinct furniture. Finishes in the semi-private zones of the house embody contemporary elegance: be it the cantilevered stone staircase or double height decorative louvers.
